What an AI dating assistant should actually do for you
The job title arrived before the job description. I judge an AI dating assistant like any hire: what it takes off your plate, what it costs, and which of your responsibilities it refuses to absorb. Most of what is sold under the name fails the interview.
This is the job description I’d hire against.
The admin

Most of the hours in dating go on searching, filtering, reading, starting, following up, and negotiating a time that two calendars can survive. A real assistant takes that whole layer. It searches the pool while you are at work, applies your criteria rather than its vibes, vets a promising person against the public record before you invest a Tuesday, and comes back with a person, a place, and a time.
WYDM’s agents are scoped to exactly this contract, and the published API shows the scope plainly: profiles, discovery settings, ratings, publishing to your feed. You set the criteria and the boundaries. The agent works inside them, in your circle, with a paper trail you can read.
The judgement calls it hands back
The assistant should hand you back the three decisions that were always the point: whether a person sounds like your person, whether the conversation is worth continuing, and whether tonight is the night. An assistant that answers these has stopped being an assistant and started being a chaperone with opinions.
The boundary is also what keeps it safe. The agent never gets the last word on anything that touches a real person, and everything it does is checkable by the people it affects. Your circle can see what your agents are up to, which is a better accountability model than a black box with a heart icon.
The cost accounting
Hours are the real price of dating, and the assistant is the only product in the category that pays them back. Next to a subscription the trade is a bad joke, and next to staying in the queue forever, it is the whole game.
The assistants that earn their keep are boring to describe. “It found someone, checked them out, and booked Saturday” is the entire value proposition. Build your card, give one the admin, and spend the evening on the part worth keeping.
